Streaming from 2 tuner Premiere to Mini w/o Romio

After unplugging my Romio, my mini gives me a c422 error,

The Romio TiVo box cannot be found. There may be a problem with your home network or the network connection on your TiVo box or the TiVo box may have been unplugged (C422).

You can still watch shows from other TiVo boxes on your network.

I didn't know the mini could stream from a 2 tuner Premiere after the Romio is disconnected.

Minis won't play MPG video from TiVo Desktop transfer, but Roamio does

I sent an MPG video to my Roamio using TiVo Desktop Pro, and the Roamio plays it just fine, but both my Minis instantly abort with a "Lost network connection to Roamio" error.

To be specific, the videos I normally send to the Roamio are MP4 based, and Desktop Pro does a transcode which slams my CPU to the wall for as long as it takes to transcode and transfer. So I thought I'd see if I could skip the transcode step in Desktop, and used Aiseesoft's video converter to make an MPG from the MP4.

The Desktop transferred it directly and quickly without transcoding, and the result played fine on the Roamio, but the Minis want nothing to do with it, as described above. Other videos I've done this with, but where I've allowed Desktop to do the transcoding, play just fine on the Minis.

Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

Activationg a Previously Activated Mini

Hello,

I bought an RF Mini from Amazon 3rd Party Used - and was described as 'open box'. When I tried to activate it online, I was of course given a message saying that the unit had already been activated. The seller is a large 3rd party seller on Amazon that I expect buys and re-sells lots of electronics. They do use Fulfillment by Amazon so I can easily send the unit back if needed. But if the seller has no way of knowing who the original owner was and therefore no way of transferring ownership of the device to me, do I have any other options for activating this unit for my own use?

View photos from computer on mini?

I could have sworn at some point that I could view photos from my pc on my mini but now I don't see how. Under the music and photos section there's things like Pandora but no link to my pc or any photo apps like google photos.

Does anyone know if it is it possible to view a slideshow drawing from photos on my pc? For what it's worth, I do have Tivo Desktop installed and my photos directory marked as shared.

Thanks.

TiVo Minis are not playing Spotify properly

I have two TiVo Minis that don't seem to want to play spotify correctly. Spotify plays fine on all my other TiVos (Roamios and a Premiere), but when I try to play it on the minis, it skips; plays for 2 secs, blank for 2 secs, play for 2 sec, etc.

My whole home network is hard wired ethernet. I reset ALL routers/switches and modems. Totally unplugged them for 2 mins and still the same problem with JUST the minis. Spotify on the Roamios and Premiere work perfectly fine. Live TV on these minis work great. Oh, Pandora on both Minis works fine too.

Any ideas what this might be and/or how to fix the Spotify for the minis?

Mini Connected via Cat6 Not Working

Hi All,

I picked up a Roamio 4 tuner DVR earlier this year when Tivo was running the $49 refurbished special. Yesterday I received a Tivo Mini and wanted to use it for my media room in the basement. I have Cat6 cable running from the basement to the top floor. My connection looks like this:

Tivo Mini -> Cable Modem Ethernet Hub
Cable Modem Ethernet Hub -> Cat6 to Upstairs Switch
Tivo -> Upstairs Switch

I also have a Tivo Stream on the network (connected to the upstairs switch) that seems to be working correctly.

Everything is gigabit speed.

So basically, the Tivo Mini is connected directly to my cable modem's hub and I then run a Cat 6 cable from that hub to a switch located on my main living area. The Roamio is connected to this switch.

So, everything connects and my Mini can see the main Tivo. However it is not working well at all. If I tune in a channel on the Mini everything works great for 10-15 seconds. Then the audio starts dropping out. The drop-outs get worse and worse along with video stutters which also get progressively worse. Basically any live TV is unwatchable using the Mini.

Do I *need* to use MOCA networking with the Mini? I was under the impression that a Cat6 connection would suffice. I am really trying to rule out a bad Mini before dropping $100 on two MOCA adapters and then trying to figure out how to get cable run into my basement. The entire reason I went with a Tivo is for the Mini functionality allowing me to get HD in my basement (and watchable on my 120" projector!).

Thanks in advance.

Connection issues with limited options. What's next?

I tried to find people with a similar problem to me, but none quite matched up. Sorry, if this has been addressed before. I have a roamio and two minis, I have no wired ethernet options and my coax cables wrap around my house in weird ways so there's probably 150ft of coax cable and multiple splitters between tv outlets. I have really strong wifi (nighthawk router) but tried power line first - it doesn't work at all on the mini. Then I connected my mini straight to the router via cat5 and tried my roamio on both power line and wifi, neither works for more than about 30 secs. Mini streaming is totally fault free.

So, what's the best next option? Try moca even with my seriously messy coax cables? buy an Ethernet bridge for the roamio? The cheapest and least effort answer is the one I'd like! I'd prefer not to have rewire coax cable or cat5...thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!

Mini Messes with Auto Switching

Ever since the last update, both my Minis connected to DVDO Edge/Green now SCREW UP the auto switch function of the DVDO devices. Specifically, when the DVDO's are powered on, it displays blue screen and attempts to display video from Mini (in standby), but can't seem to lock onto any of the inputs and flashes blue between the Mini (in Standby) and other inputs (I know this because the labels display showing the confusion of the DVDO). But, when I take my Mini out of Standby, ALL becomes WELL. The video from the Mini displays as it should according to priority. Then when I put the Mini in Standby, the DVDO continues to functions as it should switching to proper priority. This happens with BOTH my Mini's connected to different DVDO's. In other words, this is a problem cause by the Mini.

Has anyone else with an Auto Switching device experienced the same thing. This is a VERY annoying bug. I'm not keen on leaving the Mini on all the time; I really do prefer to put my stuff in Standby whenever possible, and the Mini in Standby has worked so well until of late. Love to hear if any others out there.

New (Refurb) Tivo Mini stuck at "Starting up"

I bought two refurbished 1st gen Tivo Mini's from Woot.com's refurb sale last week. One set up and is working perfectly. The other is not.

The broken one powers on but just sits at the "Starting up" screen forever. This is from the very initial power on. I can't even run guided setup. I do see it every now and then appear to reboot (the screen goes black) but then it just comes right back to that screen.

Is this by chance a known issue that I might be able to do something about to fix, or am I looking at trying to get Tivo to replace it under the 90 day refurb warranty?

Thanks!

Mini Soft Picture?

Hello,

I've had my Mini (RF) up and running for about a week now and everything has been great. The only thing that I've noticed is that the picture is just a little soft regardless of watching live tv/recordings/Netflix/Amazon/etc. I use the same picture settings across all tv inputs/apps, but the picture quality on the native tuner of the tv is without question a little clearer than the mini for live/recorded tv and that is also true for the Netflix TV app and Amazon TV app when compared to those same apps on the Mini. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just being hypersensitive?

Tivo Roamio Setup using DECA to Connect Mini's

I've decided to take the plunge. I bought amplified indoor antennas over a year ago and have been enjoying great HD quality TV. While I continue to work on getting my wife to join in on the idea of having TiVo so we can finally say goodbye to our satellite (currently less than $14 month with DVR), I am so ready to have HD on all of our home TVs.

Last week I was able to get in on a couple of refurbished TiVo Mini's through Woot and am ready to pull the trigger on Amazon's TiVo Roamio Lifetime deal. I've already bought a 3 TB HDD to drop in, so I am afraid there is no going back now.

My question is about networking. While it would be ideal to put the Roamio OTA in our living room and this would be my long-term goal, I need my wife to buy in first with using TiVo to replace our whole-home DVR and what better than in the bedrooms. So here is what I would like to do for my initial set-up until our satellite contract expires.

Bedroom
- Tivo Roamio
- no internet connection, cable outlet in wall, 1 amplified indoor antenna. In fact upstairs is where I tend to get the best OTA coverage so I'd prefer to use the upstairs antenna as the main antenna if possible.

Living room
- Mini
- Internet router,
- cable in from dish, cable return from bedroom, cable drop to basement,
- Amplified OTA antenna (limited coverage on one of our primary channels we watch)

Basement
- cable in wall
- Mini

My questions:

?? Can I feed ethernet from living room through cable in wall and return OTA signal from bedroom to living and basement? Or would I need a MOCA to do this?

I'd like to use DECA if at all possible to $ave some $$. My question is how many DECAs would I need and would I need more than one with power-outlet. Both Amazon and Ebay sell DECAs without power outlet and with.

Can I use DECA to push both OTA signal and Ethernet? If not, and I think the answer is NO, then can I push the ethernet to each device I assume with DECA as long as my Roamio OTA is in bedroom with antenna? The Mini's don't need the OTA signal do they to watch live or recorded TV as long as they have ethernet correct? There are too many forums to read on this site, I think my head is spinning.

Then if I decide to relocate the OTA Roamio to my living room, I can look at replacing that amplified antenna with a better one or look into an outdoor antenna.a

Component And HDMI Together on Mini

Hello All.. Does anyone know if the HDMI and the component outputs can be used at the same time on the Mini? (Both are always active) I have another TV not used very often, and instead of purchasing another Mini I can just run component cables over to it. Thank you

How To Connect Mini To Bolt

$

Hey Everyone -

I'm a bit confused on how I can connect a Mini to my Bolt. Here's my current set up.

Office (Creates MoCA Network)

- Ethernet from Wall to Router
- Coax Cable from Router to Wall

Living Room (Bolt Location)

- Coax Cable from Wall to Bolt

I want to add my Mini in the office, but I don't know how I would connect to the Coax Cable Jack because my Router is running a Coax Cable to the wall (and creating the MoCA network).

Do I need a splitter? And suggestions are welcome!

Explain Mini, Please?

I currently have a 4-Tuner Roamio with a Comcast cable card in my living room, which is connected wirelessly to my router in my office.

In my office, I have a small, old TV with a Comcast cable box attached (no DVR). I really only watch live TV when I'm in there since that's all I have. I find I really miss the "trick" features like pausing and rewinding and I'd probably occasionally want to watch a recorded show.

I don't really need more tuners to record so I am guessing that what would help would be a Mini. I have done some reading on this but I do have a few questions though:

1. Do I connect it wirelessly to my router, which is across the room? I'd prefer no wires but I can run them if I have to.

2. Does it connect wirelessly to my Roamio?

3. Does it ALWAYS have control of one of the four tuners in my Roamio? What if four things are scheduled to record? Can I still just watch live TV in my office if the Roamio is using all four tuners?

I might have other questions but this is a good start. Thanks!!!

Mini v2 - Green LED RF Activity light

I searched but saw no mention of the newly activated Green RF activity LED

Question for those with a Mini v2 in RF mode, running 20.5.4a.RC6 with a Bolt.

Two of my Mini v2 have a newly activated Green RF activity LED inside.
Both of these also have SkipMode enabled when the Host is the Bolt.

One of my Mini v2 does not display any Green RF activity LED.
This one also does not have SkipMode enabled when the Host is the Bolt.

Does anyone else have a Green RF activity LED?
Does anyone else see the same pattern?

20.5.4a Update

I have had the update for a few weeks. I have two issues.

Frequently, when going back from live TV, the sound effects are missing on the first and sometimes second menu. They return when I go back to TiVo Central.

The play button asks me if I want to enable Quick Mode while watching live TV. Now, that's illogical and I'm running a Roamio with current firmware.

Not big problems, but could be confusing.

Why can't there be a direct cable from Roamio to Mini, no MoCa?

I've been through the posts, and have contacted Tivo support about my situation. I have a Roamio Plus set up in the basement of our place, served by an RG-59 line that was wired in with the original construction in 1979. This is one of three RG-59's, each terminating in a place of potential TV placement. The home run is in the third story loft, where the cable TV/Internet service enters the unit, and where the modem and router are.

I want to extend the Tivo service into the guest BR, which is adjacent to the TV room in the basement. I naively thought I could just run an ethernet cable from the back of the Roamio Plus, snaking it over and through the common wall, and into the back of the Mini. But, n-o-o-o, this is verboten.

Since I have grudgingly accepted that, to get a decent signal, I really need a MoCa network, all I really want to know is: why can't one run a direct line out the back of the Roamio Plua and into the back of the Mini?

Any enlightenment sincerely appreciated.

Tivo-phile since Series I.

Mini powering off

In the past few days I have noticed that the Mini powers down. If we are watching TV it seems to work fine, but when left alone, powers off.

Purchased in Dec 2014 and should still be under warranty?
