Tivo Mini not working on MOCA (Verizon Fios)? Check this

I just wanted to share my experience in the hopes that it would help some other poor souls out there.

I jumped on the TIVO train recently and I'm never getting off, my home has cable outlets in every room and I had Fios before which worked with Coax.

When I got my Tivo and Minis, the Tivo set up without a hitch, the Mini's when connected to the Coax outlets would seem to want to setup but then would stop. Since I've never used MoCA I spent my entire time trying to troubleshoot on that end but then just by chance I learnt it was the Mini's fault.

So here is what I found out
By Default the Mini has MoCA settings to Channel=AUTO.
When I connected the Mini it will start setup, then it would do this massive update.
HERE IS THE CATCH. That update will change the MoCA CHANNEL=15.

If you have a mini and are trying to setup MoCA, check that the channel has not defaulted to 15.

After trying the IGMP, port opening, firewall etc. I literally gave up on MoCA until I was setting up my 3rd Mini and I happened to check the MoCA settings before and after the update and noticed that the update changed the MoCA channel setting. Once I changed it back to Auto, All 4 minis are now working without any issues with my ActionTec router.

Hope it helps

Hi - -just a quick n00b question re the DECA setup. I have a TiVo Roamio and 2 Minis. Do all three units need to be connected via DECA for things to work properly? Thanks!

Tivo iOS app as a suitable replacement for Tivo Mini?

Hi all. I need some assistance from someone who is using AirPlay to stream Tivo content to a TV via an Apple TV device.

I have a Tivo Bolt at home in my office (where the HDTV antenna is hooked up). I'd like to connect our basement TV so that it can access the Tivo's recorded content, as well.

I am trying to decide if I should buy a Tivo Mini or if I can get by using a new Apple TV (gen 4) with my existing iPad and iPhone. I don't have the Apple TV yet and need someone's help knowing what is possible or not using AirPlay.

I do have the Tivo app on my iPad and iPhone and they work well. I wonder, though, if the experience changes once one engages AirPlay. That is something I can't try out right now.

Using just the Tivo app on my iPad (without AirPlay), for example, I cannot find a way to invoke SkipMode or QuickMode. Are those features available once AirPlay is started? Does someone know what features are -not- available in the iOS app at all when compared to the Tivo Mini?

I prefer the additional content, functionality, and flexibility options offered by the Apple TV and would much rather have that be my media "hub" instead of the Tivo Mini and potentially -plus- the Apple TV. I just don't know what I'm giving up by going just through the iOS app, though. Can someone please help me understand?

Thank you!

Tivos (including mini) do work well with Ethernet Switches?

Which is what I was told today by three different Tivo Support Techs.

I have a Roamio and a Premiere on the same Ethernet 8 port gig switch that work great together. I added the new Mini in a different room and connected it to a new 8 port Ethernet gig switch and NOTHING -- knows that there is a Roamio and a Premiere but has the red slash/circle in front of both in the setup and cannot connect to them. Tivo Support indicated that Tivos on different subnets cannot communicate and were surprised that even on the same switch that they would work together -- but nowhere have I read in Tivo literature that they cannot handle switches, the advertising mentions that they work on a home network. A home network must include at least one switche unless a person only has need of the four Ethernet ports on the cable router -- I am using 15 ports.

The last tech support person had me set the Roamio for MoCA (topology of which I am unfamiliar) and indicated during the Mini setup to use MoCA and connected the Comcast Cable to the Mini -- NOTHING YET...

QUESTION -- am I supposed to use an adapter of some sort somewhere OR were the directions sufficient -- the Mini shows it is using MoCA channel 15 but still cannot connect to the Roamio.

Sorry for the ignorance, but am a retired teacher and retired IT person used to Ethernet and have ignorance about MoCA -- any suggestions on how to get the Mini to communicate with the Roamio using MoCA since Ethernet between two subnets does not work (I even moved that new TV and the Mini and connected it to the same switch as the Roamio via Ethernet -- NOTHING -- even tried connecting the Mini directly to the remaining spare port on the router -- NOTHING).

So I feel that I am stuck with MoCA and as asked above, is an adapter absolutely necessary between Roamio and Mini if both are set for MoCA? Currently both the Roamio and Mini are set for MoCA and have the Comcast cable connected directly from the cable amplifier to the Mini with NOTHING to show for it.
Suggestions/Opinions appreciated -- Thanks

(C501) Error Solved!

I have (2) Roamio's and (4) Minis (3 v1 and 1 v2). The Mini's are configured with MoCa connection to the Roamio's. One of my Mini's (v1) has been plagued with (C501) errors for months, even though it works properly, just annoying!
I've tried powering everything down, rebooting, multiple force connections, different MoCa channels, etc.. with all devices. The only thing I didn't try was a master reset (Clear & Delete Everything) on the Mini with the error.
Well, that fixed it! A Master reset (Clear & Delete Everything) did the trick! and it's not too painful on a Mini!

No Discovery Bar on Old Mini (92000)

I recently got 2 refurbished IR Mini's (92000) I added them to my Roamio Plus, which already had an RF Mini (93000). The 93000 Mini shows the discovery bar and always did, however BOTH 92000's have no Discovery Bar, just blank blue background on the top of the screen. All are connected via MOCA and connect to the internet and host DVR with no problems. everything else seems to work. I've tried rebooting everything, no changes.

Does the 92000 Mini not support the discovery bar, only the 93000? That's what it appears to be.

(Another) Tivo mini network connection (I'm sorry)

Hey all. I apologize in advance for this. I've combed through the other "how can I hook up my mini" threads, but I'm still not clear on what I can/cannot do. So, I'm going to ask a specific question about my setup.

The facts:

1) I currently have a 6 tuner Roamio that is hard wired to my network's router, and is also connected to the outside world via a coax connection.

2) The location I am planning for my new Tivo mini has an easily accessible coax outlet, but not a network jack.

What is the _easiest_ way for me to set up my mini so that it can communicate with my Roamio? Some things I've read indicate that "Moca" might "just work" for me. Why I say this:

- My 6 tuner Roamio has Moca built in
- The mini has Moca built in
- My 6 tuner Roamio has both a hard wired network connection and a coax connection.

So, can I just hook my mini up to the coax jack and I'm good to go? If not, what am I missing?

Thanks so much in advance.

P.S. If necessary, I could run a network cable to the mini, but it will be a pain, and I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Stealth channels

I have several channels on my mini that are not selected on the host Roamio and not shown in the guide. However, when using the up/down channel button the mini tunes to these channels. I've repeated guided setup on both the Roamio and the mini and they still exist. What's the deal?

Bolt, Mini, Amazon Fire, and 4K

Currently on the Roamio Plus, nice unit. Now im moving on to 4K as my receivers, cameras and even my phones record in 4K. All of my stuff are stored on a 20TB NAS. Plex server is a PC which also handles my CCTV. Its plenty powerful.
Im at a crossroad as to which direction to go for a seamless overall wife friendly setup for the other TVs in the house.

Roku 4 and Minis?
Amazon Fire 4K and Minis?

The current Mini is a bit dated with no 4k support.
Im a bit confused as to why Plex on my Roamio does not support even 1080p when my PC does the trancoding so Im wondering what unfortunate tricks the Bolt has lying in wait.

Saw a message pop up on my Mini today that quick mode is turned off while the play bar was up. Didn't investigate further but found it odd that the feature is available on the mini but not the Roamio. Anyone else see that?

Old Roamio (no moca) with Minis (using moca)

I have an old Roamio that is not moca capable. I just recently bought a tivo mini and want to know if im able to connect the Roamio to the network using ethernet (no moca adapters, just straight into router) and then connect the minis using moca. Will this work, will they be able to talk to each other? or do I have to get a moca adapter for the Roamio.

Additional info: I have verizon fios so my network is already setup with moca, the minis can get an internet connection with moca, just want to know if they will be able to talk to the roamio that is on ethernet.

MOCA Coax light is off TiVo can't connect

So I have my MOCA adapter plugged into my router, the coax cable plugging into the MOCA adapter, then the cable modem connected to the MOCA. The internet connection is fine, though the coax light is off and I can't get TiVo mini to connect via MOCA. I do have a couple newer splitters that are 5-1000mhz that was installed by the cable company. The splitters have different DB ratings on some of the ports, I don't know if this would cause a problem or not:

Split1:
Split2 5.5dB
Split3 5.5dB
Living Room 5.5dB
Notes: 3way, 5-1000Mhz, -120dB RFI, 6KV Surge Protected

Split2:
AV System (Tivo Mini) 3.5dB
Bed Room2 7.5dB
Bed Room3 (Cable modem, router, and MOCA Adapter) 7.5dB
Notes: 3way, 5-1000mhz, -130dB RFI

Split3:
Family Room 3.5dB
BedRoom1 3.5dB
Notes: 2way, 5-1000mhz

While I have accounted for every coax outlet in the house, I have done a reasonable best effort to understand based on location and what I can follow in the basement of what goes to where.

I have two MOCA adapters, though have not plugged the 2nd one into the TiVo Roamio (basic) as of yet. I gave it a break over the holidays and am currently using a wireless 54g bridge for the mini and the N adapter on the Roamio. Everything comes in fine, the FF/RR don't work as well as it does natively on the Roamio, though I don't use the mini as much and I mostly watch ad free PBS. Bah, now I am wondering if I should just return the MOCA adapters and use Wifi. ><

I like Quick Mode, except having the two step process of hitting Play then Select. It would be nice with a one button on/off while you are playing?

Not sure what it does for the Mini but for anyone that got the new update. Does it seem overall faster? When going to a recorded show to playing the show it is almost, almost as fast as playing it from the host DVR now.

Ethernet Tivo Mini in a mixed Ethernet and MOCA environment - How I got mine to work!

$

I apologize if this entire post is redundant.
I recently came across a problem (error V70), and was able to resolve it. I created an account on this forum to share my experience, in hopes that it'll help someone.

My environment is comprised of one Roamio (the 6-tuner version), and 5 Tivo minis.

All of the minis were connected via MOCA, but in one room I have no coax connection, so I had to use Ethernet. Since I also don't have Ethernet in that room, I decided to start a Powerline network.

The basic setup is as follows:
1) Roamio DVR <--> Powerline adapter <--> Wall <--> Powerline adapter <--> Router.

2) Roamio DVR <--> Coax

Note that my DVR is connected via Ethernet and Coax - the latter connection allows the DVR to create the MOCA network.

OK, moving on:
3) 4 Tivo Minis connected to the wall via Coax:
Tivo Mini <--> Coax

4) 1 Tivo Mini connected via Ethernet:
Tivo Mini <--> Powerline adapter <--> Wall

Setting up the MOCA network wasn't an issue. If you have a problem with MOCA, there are plenty of threads about it, so I won't cover that.

The issue was with the Tivo Mini I connected via Ethernet (the one mentioned in #4, above). No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to:
a) "See" the main DVR. I got error v70 "Tivo DVR not found".
b) After solving the issue in "a" above (I'll tell you how shortly), I got another error on the Tivo Mini's main screen (the "normal" screen you see when you push the Tivo button) that the Mini can't connect to the main DVR.

The issues in "a" and "b" may be related, and the final fix I applied may be relevant to both, but I'll describe the exact order I did things.

I took the non-connecting Mini (with error v70), and I swapped it with a working one. I connected it via Coax, EVEN THOUGH in its final setup I was planning to use Ethernet. It went all the way through, and got me to the main screen - indicating that setup is complete.
I disconnected it, and took it back to the room that has no Coax. I connected it via the Powerline adapter again.
It booted to the main screen, but gave me the second error (the one mentioned in "b" above). I think it was error v80 or v81.

At that point, I was lost. Everything in the Powerline network works! I couldn't figure out the issue.

My last resort was to set up the non-working, Powerline-connected Tivo Mini with a static IP. I did the same for the main DVR. In fact, I was on a roll, so I changed the other 4 working Minis to have a static IP as well (note: the other 4 were still on MOCA, but their MOCA IP was changed to a static one).

Everything started to work!

I hope this helps someone resolve a similar issues.

Please respond to this post if you have any questions.

Remove Spotify?

I just got a whole house Sonos setup along with a few Bose Soundtouch (wifi) units. My Spotify Connect menu (on my non-Tivo devices) shows all of the different rooms/devices I can play to, but now seems cluttered by the three Tivo Minis in the house. We have a pair of Roamio Pros which don't show up in Spotify Connect.

I've never gotten the Tivo Spotify app to work correctly and would like to remove it from all of my Tivos, especially the Minis. Is this possible? Or can I at least remove the Minis from Spotify Connect? Thanks in advance.
