Activating a Mini Online

How long does it normally take to connect the Mini to my account online? I put in the TSN, and it shows online, but the Mini says it doesn't detect a qualifying DVR. I have a Roamio OTA connected (hardwired) through my ethernet, although there are two switches between, is that a problem?

Thanks for any input,
Joel

Not all Minis Have Skip Mode (same system)

I have 5 minis, a Bolt and a Roamio Pro.

Skip mode works on the Bolt, the Roamio Pro (now since the software update, haven't used but the green tags are there), and 1 mini. It does not work on 4 of the minis. This was true before the latest software update and still true after the software update.

All attached to the exact network switch, all use same type of network cable, all running the 20.5.6 software update. Not that it likely matters, but the one Mini that works is attached to the same model of TV as three of the Minis that don't. The minis were purchased in 2 batches and the one that works was purchased with others that don't.

Just spent an hour on the phone with Tivo and they have no idea why and are investigating. Re-did guided setup, switched to Roamio Pro as host and back, restarted numerous times.

Anyone else have this problem?

Any ideas?

Roamio Plus & Mini setup nightmares

I recently purchased a Roamio Plus along with 5 Minis. This setup was to replace a very lousy TWC WH-DVR setup. I initially setup the Roamio to get a feel for the TiVO UI and was very pleased. That is when I went all in and got the 5 Minis. That is also when I began to lose my mind chasing setup issues.

I live in a brand new home with a structured wiring closet. I have Cat6 ran throughout the house along with RG-6 to all desired TV locations. In my wiring closet I have an ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 that feeds an ASUS RT-AC68W Router. All Cat 6 is switched via a Netgear ProSafe JGS524Ev2. When I first moved in I cable tested every cat6 cable run.

I chose to setup the Minis with Ethernet and setup when normally. I used static IPs, set at both the router and TiVos. However I quickly noticed after a short period of time the minis would lose partial connectivity to the Roamio. I could still watch live TV but pretty much everything else provided by the host didn't work including guide and visibility of recorded content. Forcing the network to reset on the mini resolved the issue each time.

The first call into TiVo support I got the "we don't support switches" answer. So, I hardwired directly into the router for the partial setup I had at the time. This was not going to be a permanent solution, I have too many Minis and only 3 available ports on the router. But, the test resolved the DVR disappearing.

I took a flyer and put in another switch just for the TiVo equipment. It was a cheap Netgear GS205. This introduced a different problem. While watching LiveTV I would get a V87 error (Lost Connection) on the Minis. I could immediately hit LiveTV and be back up to speed. However, not an acceptable experience.

My next call yielded the push from support to move to MoCA. I was hesitant but for no real reason other than an unsubstantiated belief that was a lower bandwidth option and I might encounter issues with 5 Minis. But, I relented and ordered the POE filter I needed plus another splitter required to support the tuning adapter TWC requires. I set everything up today all seems to be working except for playback of recorded content. Over the past few weeks I recorded a few movies and was testing out playback on the Minis and I got a v125 error. This might have been present all along Another call to support.....

This time the call digressed into what splitters I have and what coax distribution block was in my wiring closet. The tech wants me to get a higher bandwidth distribution block and the same with the splitter where the Roamio and Tuning adapter. The stuff I have caps out at 1002Mhz. So, I'm going swap those out but I don't have high hopes given the playback error was also there on just the Ethernet based setup, prior to enabling MoCA.

If anyone has fought something similar, I would love to learn from your experiences.

MoCa with separate OTA coax

I have a single cable internet that comes into the house to my cable modem which goes to my Wi-Fi router and switch.

All the coax jacks in my house are split from a separate coax from my OTA antenna out on the roof.

My Roamio is connected to the internet via Ethernet cable. It works fine.

I bought a Mini for my son's room and there isn't an Ethernet jack near his TV, so I bought two MoCa adapters. His coax jack goes into one adapter and the Ethernet cable goes to his Mini. The other end of his coax cable from his wall goes to the second MoCa adapter and passes Ethernet directly to my router.

The Mini can connect to TiVo during guided setup but doesn't see the Roamio? TiVo support is no help, am I missing something? If I have internet connection over the coax via MoCa and we're on the same internal network, why isn't the Mini seeing the Roamio?

Thanks for any help!

Roamio, Bolt, Several Mini's

I am thinking about getting a bolt in addition to my Roamio. Will all of the devices be able to see each other? Just wondering how this type of setup with Bolt, Roamio and 4 mini's would work.

Boot to Live TV?

New Bolt and Mini owner here. Girlfriend keeps asking if the Mini can boot straight to Live TV instead of the main menu every time it wakes up.

Didn't see an option in the settings (might have just missed it). Any chance this is possible?

New Mini's Not Getting 20.5.6 Update

I have 3 new mini's that I purchased with my Bolt last week. Checked all 3 this morning and they are not getting the 20.5.6 update when connecting to TiVo. I see there was a priority update list, but that page seems to have been shut down. Is there any way to get the updates for my 3 Mini's made available quickly?

Mini Error V113 - 'verifying network'

So - I did not see this posted or any details that matched this problem I had with my Mini;

- Verizon FIOS
- Roamio Pro (new lifetime, part of BF deal)
- Mini RF (new version, Amazon deal for $117)
- Series3, HD, and Series 2 boxes on account with lifetime

1. So, set up Roamio. Got it up and running (not totally bought into the new interface, but I'm coming along). Set up via MoCa. Did NOT have an ethernet plugged in as well.

2. Roamio can 'see' the Series 3, HD and Series 2, and even access them on the network to see what they have recorded. (all 3 are also listed in 'Devices' under the 'My shows')

3. Mini arrives, go through setup. Activated online. Maybe I rushed setting it up a little, but it shows up on account. Mini is able to dial into TiVo for software updates, and so forth.

4. Mini, in network settings, set up via MoCa, 'sees' my Roamio. But, under 'My Shows', in 'Devices', there are no network devices found.

All the shows that have been recorded on Roamio are listed in the 'My Shows'.

If I try to go to 'Live TV', though, I get V113 - Verifying Network' error. I also can't stream the recorded shows from the Roamio that are listed, but I can select them and see all their detail.

5. I DID already try changing to Ethernet on the Mini. I also have plugged in the Roamio to the ethernet after I first got the error (and it remains plugged in). I ALSO made sure MoCa channel was on Auto (and even hard-set the MoCa channels to be the same.. same error V113)

Regardless, all things stayed the same - could see the list of shows on the Roamio in the Mini's 'My Shows' list. Mini's network LISTS the Roamio. But in 'My Devices' under 'My Shows', the Roamio is not listed. And the Mini does not exist in the Roamio's Device list (which still has the 3 other TiVos).

It is activated on my account, and TiVo helpdesk could not figure it out after the host of rebooting and service connections. I did get the new software update over the past couple of days, and there is no difference in the behavior before or after.

Help desk said to return the Mini. I'm doing that, but while waiting for the new one - and worrying that I'm going to have the same error, wanted to see if anyone had any ideas or a similar problem.

Connect Mini to Bolt or Roamio Plus?

OK, so I have a Roamio Plus in one room, a new Bolt in another. I have a Mini (V2) to put in a third room. All MOCA networked. I was deciding which base unit to associate the mini with. The first inclination is to go with the Roamio Plus and allocate against 6 tuners vice 4. The other thought is to go with the Bolt because of newer features like Skip Mode, but I'm unclear if these features translate to the Mini. If the mini is associated with the Bolt, will it pickup more features like Skip Mode, or will it function exactly the same no matter which unit it is associated with?

Release Tuner on Primier from Mini

I just set up a MoCa network with my Premier 4 tuner and a single tivo mini. I also ordered a 2nd tivo mini that is on the way. I understand now that a mini will lock a tuner on the premier that becomes unavailable for recording. I believe I read that 2 minis can share 1 tuner if both are not using live TV. Is this true? Where can I configure that?

Is it possible to release the tuner so the mini still functions to stream and use apps like netflix/amazon but does not lock onto one of the tuners on the Premier. I know I will not be able to watch Live TV that way but it would be nice to know I could turn it on and off when I wanted. In general I will watch Live TV from the mini very little and would much rather have the 4 tuners for recording and live TV in the family room than 1 dedicated to a mini that is barely used.

Thanks for any input.

No option for Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/YouTube on Mini

So, this is weird. I had a mini that died recently and so got a refurbished one back from Tivo. What's weird about this particular mini is that, when you go the "Find TV, Movies & Videos" option, there is no option to select any streaming service whatsoever. I can get to individual shows and specific streaming episodes if I have one pass set up, but the option to just get into Netflix/Hulu/YouTube/Amazon general is completely gone. I can search, browse TV and movies and do wishlist searches but that is all.

Did I get an older model back from TiVo? If so, that's stinks. Or, is there just a setting that I'm missing?

So just perusing around reading fine prints....and Tivo is now saying that the $149 purchase w/lifetime for a mini now is an annual fee. What!!!!

Am I on drugs here or is this for real....? A copy of the fine print below from Tivo Mini site ...

"Annual DVR service plan fee (currently $149.99/year) is payable in full at outset of service year, is not refundable, and renews automatically until cancelled. Taxes may apply."

Bluetooth audio?

I'm sure the answer to this is "no way", but just in case I'm wrong, I thought I'd ask: If you plug a bluetooth dongle into the USB port on a mini, can you then pair a bluetooth headphone with it to get wireless audio?

Several reason to get a Mini

The new skip function is interesting but try in on a MINI.... OH it does not work and no plan to make it work.

Add a guide for each Mini. If you have your mini in designed areas, like a kids area, man cave, kids room, adult room then you may/probably want to design a guide for each area....ie the sports guys don't want or need to see all the shopping and kids channels and vise-a-versa. Oh you can not do that on a mini.

Prevent get the Mini software out of sync with the main box....Oh you can not do that either.

Make guide on other changes from the mini so you don't have to go to the main box all the time. oh can't do that either.

I could continue but the end result is always the same You can't do that on a mini....then why should I have purchased the mini....would I not have been better off with another main box????

Mini video output options same as Roamio?

Hi. Does the Roamio and Mini have identical Video Output options for selecting permissible output resolutions? The Roamio supports 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080P passthru. Is the Mini the same?

Live TV Freezing

I have my Mini connected via MoCa to my Roamio Pro. Both of my units are set up with static IP addresses.

I noticed an issue tonight when watching ESPN. After a few seconds, the picture would freeze. In order to rectify the situation, I had to change the channel and then change it back. The picture would then freeze again after a few seconds. I tried recording the show and then playing it and found the Mini completely froze at that point. I needed to unplug the Mini to reset it.

Anyone else having issues like this on the new version?

Thanks,
Merg

Anyone Getting 20.5.6 Update on Mini's?

The release notes for 20.5.6 update did mention it applied to the Mini. But I'm still not getting them. TiVo said up to a week. It's been longer than a week. Wondering if anyone else is getting 20.5.6 on their Mini's...

Mini and Tivo Roamio OTA over Ethernet, stutter

$

I've had my mini in my front room for about two weeks, and for some reason I'm just noticing it tonight, but HD playback on the mini is virtually impossible, it skips and stutters repeatedly. I'm running a gigabit ethernet with a couple switches, but everything is hard-wired.

Programming played on the Roamio is fine, both recorded and live. Standard Def (SD) playback on the mini, live, is fine, but HD playback, either live or recorded, now stutters.

I've seen the other posts re Moca, but I'm hardwired on ethernet. Is it a problem with my switches, or Mini? The Mini doesn't seem capable of HD playback. . .

Any suggestions appreciated,

Joel

What Software Version Is On Your Mini?

...and is your Mini v1 or v2? And where did you get your Mini from?

I just set up my Woot Refurb Mini v1 and before I could even get to System Information it appears to have downloaded and installed 20.5.4a.

I have QuickMode (see my LINK; I did NOT have it when I began streaming "Superman Returns" but did at the 2 hour point) and I have Channel Logos in my Guide. Service Connection reported 'Failed' before I streamed the movie and 'Successful' after so I'm guessing that's what enabled it.

What's the difference between 20.5.4a and 20.5.6 on the Mini?

I'm happy with 20.5.4.a.
